Safety, what is better?

Summer sits sunning herself in the yard of a twoleg home. She's perfectly happy their, in the safety of the fence. "I don't get why anybody would give all this up," she mutters, thinking of cats she'd seen in the forest. No, she was very happy and safe.

"You really need to get that hunger thing under control Moon," Summer said teasingly. "But milk does sound good." She purred even louder and looked up at her twoleg.

Moon sighed and jumped out of the humans arms and went to the fridge and yowled at it scratching at the door. "This is what you have to do to get milk." The human that was holding her got up and poured some milk into a dish and set it down.

Summer struggled free of her two leg and joined her sister at the dish lapping up the milk as fast as she can so as to get the most. She glances sideways at her sister wondering if a surprise attack is worth missing some milk.

Moon joins her sister but takes it easy enjoying the taste of the milk. "Slow down your going to get hiccups." She purrs as the cool liquid soothes her throat and fills her belly a little. "This is the life I love sometimes."

"You're the one who wants to leave this behind," Summer says. She slows down to make sure Moon gets enough, after all Moon is the reason they have milk.

After finishing the milk with Summer the humans had left to go somewhere in their cars and she decided to go outside. Once outside she started to smell something bad and recognized it as smoke. "Summer are you okay? Is everything okay in there?"

Summer, who had returned to the window sill, began coughing like crazy. as she stood up to get off the windowsill she felt very lightheaded and fell off. "Gah," she cried out. She tumbled to the ground and hit her head, rendering her unconscious.

Moon didn't hear anything and got worried. She let out a yowl to ask for any help from any passerby and rushed inside to help Summer just in-case something happened. Seeing Summer she started toward her coughing; once at Summer's side she graved her scruff and started pulling her outside struggling.

Once outside in the fresh air, Summer coughed a few more times before opening her eyes. "What happened?" she ask hoarsely. Slowly she attempted to stand but her legs crumpled beneath her.

"Fire...*cough*...No home...*cough*... sorry sis." She knew they had to get out of there before the lawn caught on fire. "We have to move I'll help you as much as possible but there is no going over the fence so she started digging at the frozen ground.

Summer tried to stand again and this time she made it to her feet but began leaning heavily on the fence. "Moon, you have to get out of here. Go over the fence. You don't have time to dig a hole," summer insisted, looking back at the burning building.

"I could never leave my sister." She was getting the dirt to come loose finally and it was flying out behind her as soon as it broke apart from the rest of the frozen ground. "We will be out soon."

Summer looked nervously at the house then her sister. Plumes of smoke rose from it and orange could be seen. "Why me?" Summer muttered. She looked back at Moon who was digging the hole. At least somebody had saved her.

Moon finally broke free, "Lets go." She waited to help Summer get under the fence first. "At least we got to drink milk first. " She thought of trying to cheer Summer up some but she herself was sad about loosing their home.

Summer slipped through the fence. Now that she had cleared her lungs she was feeling a lot better. "Yeah. We got milk before we lost our home."

Moon slipped under and beside her sister she stood staring at the forest. "I guess our adventure starts now. We will have a whole new life and we will be dependent on each other. Summer are you ready?"

Summer looks out on the forest and gulps. She wasn't ready. She was terrified. How could she face her fear of the unknown. "Why me?" she asked herself again. Louder, she said to Moon, "I suppose... Ready as I'll ever be."

Moon's tail touches Summer shoulders and gives her an encouraging smile. "Lets go." She starts to pad forward with new found excitement she never knew she had. "I'll protect you so don't worry." She called back knowing that Summer needed that.

"I can't wait," Summer responded, following behind her sister. She knew Moon meant well but wasn't very encouraged. Moon had about the same experience in defending herself as Summer.

Moon pads into the dense forest and smiles at the beauty but she wanted to see a stream soon. "Summer its so pretty and I only took a step in. I love it so far." Her eyes sparkled in happiness.

Summer looks around. "Moon, I don't like this at all..." she says. A frown spreads across her face as she looks around. "Maybe we should go back. We can go to one of the twoleg's who lived beside ours..."

"Summer we are finally here and our humans will think we just ran away from the fire or died in it and who knows where we might live after that. We might never see the forest again." Moon sniffs the air and listens for water but keeps padding farther and farther.

Summer looks around warily but follows Moon. "It's scarier up close," she muttered quietly, hoping her sister wouldn't hear. She didn't want to cause a fight like she had last night.

"What's so scary?" Moon finally heard rushing water and she raced to see it. When she got there no sun could touch the leaves, "Aww so sad maybe I'll see the sun hit it another time."
